Eye treatment under CGHS, WBHS, ESI and insurance
Spectra Eye Hospital, Chinar Park, and Spectra Eye Foundation, Madhyamgram, are listed under several government health schemes and work with insurers for cashless treatment. Here's what to bring and what to expect.
CGHS
Bring your CGHS card and the referral from your CGHS wellness centre for planned consultations and surgery. Cataract surgery is covered at CGHS rates with the standard lens; if you choose a premium lens, you pay the difference.
WBHS (West Bengal Health Scheme)
Bring your WBHS card and the beneficiary's ID. The front desk will confirm the package and paperwork for your procedure.
ESI
ESI patients need a valid referral from their ESI dispensary or hospital. Bring the referral letter and your e-Pehchan card.
Health insurance and cashless
- Bring your policy number, the TPA or insurer's card, and photo ID
- Cashless approval is requested before admission; allow a few working days for planned surgery
- Check your cataract sub-limit: many policies cap cataract payouts per eye
- Keep all bills and discharge papers if you need to claim reimbursement
Checklist
- Scheme or insurance card, and photo ID
- Referral letter (CGHS, ESI)
- Old eye reports and current glasses
- Medicine list, sugar and BP reports

Questions
Is cataract surgery free under CGHS?
Cataract surgery with a standard lens is covered at CGHS-approved rates. Premium lenses cost extra, which the patient pays.
Can I get cashless cataract surgery with health insurance?
Usually yes, through your TPA, up to your policy's cataract limit. The hospital requests approval before surgery.
