Femto-LASIK or standard (blade) LASIK?

Both reshape the cornea with the same excimer laser, so the final vision is similar. The femto flap is more uniform in thickness, carries fewer flap-related complications, and allows treatment of some eyes that are borderline for a blade flap. Who suits it

• Age 18+, power stable for a year
• Minus or plus power, with or without cylinder. SMILE does not treat plus power well
• A cornea thick and regular enough on topography
• No keratoconus, uncontrolled diabetes, active infection or severe dry eye

After the operation

• Watering and a gritty feeling for a few hours
• Most see well enough to work the next day
• Don't rub the eyes; wear shields at night for a week
